GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Northern Arizona men's basketball team suffered its second straight loss in conference play Saturday for the first time this season, as the Lumberjacks were unable to stop North Dakota in an 84-68 loss at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
NAU started strong in the first seven minutes of the game, taking a 13-10 lead at the first media timeout. But from there, North Dakota made six of its next seven 3-point attempts to take a 43-36 lead into the locker room.
The Lumberjacks closed the gap with a 7-0 run early in the seond half, but UND returned the favor with a 9-0 run of it's own to take a 54-44 advantage with 15:23 remaining. UND went up by 14 points at the next media timeout and managed to increase its lead as the game went on.
Turnovers doomed the Lumberjacks in the second half, as they had nine in the first 14 minutes of the half. In all, North Dakota scored 27 points off NAU turnovers.
NAU's Max Jacobsen led all scorers with 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting. Quinton Upshur had 13 points, Aaseem Dixon added 10 and Gaellan Bewernick registered six points and 10 rebounds. NAU shot over 50 percent from the floor for the third straight game.
North Dakota connected on a season-high 13 3-pointers, shooting 56.5 percent from behind the arc and 50 percent overall. UND was led by Jamal Webb, who had 15 points.
