Twins first baseman Justin Morneau has had more than his share of unwelcome absences due to injuries in the past few seasons, but Saturday's departure from his team was altogether different.

Minnesota has placed Morneau on the paternity list to be by his wife Krista's side for the  birth of their second child. He can be away from the team for up to three days.

The Twins have recalled first baseman Chris Parmelee from Triple-A Rochester for Saturday's game against the Royals in Kansas City. Parmelee has hit .194 with two home runs and five RBI in 103 at-bats for Minnesota this season.

Morneau is hitting .249 with 11 home runs and 40 RBI in 285 at-bats. After two injury-plagued seasons, he's 11 at-bats away from matching his highest total since 2009.
