Midweek Stock Report: Haula line clicking for Wild
Every Wednesday, FOX Sports North takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.
With that in mind, let's take stock of the current Minnesota sports scene.
Erik Haula, Wild forward
Haula scored his first goal of the season in the Wild’s win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday. He got the Wild on the board less than two minutes into the game, speeding up the left side and snapping a quick shot between goalie Jeff Zatkoff’s legs. He followed it up with a big assist later in the period, jumping a Kings breakout pass and springing linemate Jason Pominville.
Teemu Pulkkinen, Wild forward
Pulkkinen scored his first goal as a member of the Wild on Monday, redirecting a point shot from Jonas Brodin past Zatkoff to give the Wild a 5-1 lead late in the second period.
Maya Moore, Lynx forward
Moore saved the Lynx’s season in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals, scoring 31 points and shooting 52.9 percent from the field to lead Minnesota to an 85-79 win. The win forces a decisive Game 5 in Minneapolis, as the Lynx look to win their second consecutive WNBA title, and fourth in six years.
The Wild’s penalty kill
Head coach Bruce Boudreau and his staff have the Wild’s power play clicking at a dominant pace so far this season. They’ve gone 11-for-11 through three games, and are one of just three perfect penalty killing units in the NHL.
St. Cloud State men’s hockey team
After finishing third in the NCHC last season and making the NCAA tournament as a No. 2 seed the Huskies are off to a dismal start in 2016. SCSU was swept in its home opener over the weekend, falling 4-1, 6-4 to Minnesota State, Mankato. The Huskies remain ranked in the latest USCHO top-20 poll, but tumbled all the way to No. 14 this week.
Tommy Milone, Twins pitcher
Milone was one of five Twins players who cleared waivers Monday and were outrighted to Triple-A Rochester. The 29-year-old refused the assignment and is officially a free agent after going 12-11 with a 4.79 ERA in 49 appearances for the Twins. Milone's ERA rose to 5.71 last season through 69 innings of work.
