Mercury's DeWanna Bonner wins player-of-week honor

PHOENIX -- Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner today was named WNBA Western Conference Player of the Week for June 5-14, the league announced Monday.  For the four games during the first week of the season, Bonner averaged 19.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals as the Mercury kicked off the season with a 2-2 record. 

Bonner had 22 points and seven rebounds in the Mercury's victory over previously unbeaten Minnesota and had 22 points and six rebounds in a loss at New York. This marks the fourth career WNBA Player of the Week honor for Bonner, and her first such award since Sept. 2, 2012.

Bonner currently ranks third in the WNBA and tops among Western Conference players in scoring and is tied for tenth in the league in steals. She is second in the league in minutes played, averaging 34.8 minutes per game.

The Mercury return to action on Friday at 7 p.m., hosting the Connecticut Sun at US Airways Center.
