The Lions withstood a late rally from a 14-man Waikato Chiefs team to win 33-27 and record its second victory of the Super 14 on Saturday.
The Lions led 27-13 when a try to Lelia Masaga was disallowed because Chiefs prop Ben May had stamped on Joe van Niekerk at a ruck in the 64th minute.
