LeBron James, Heat sing tunes for charity
By Barry LeBrock
In what is quickly becoming the most popular charity fund-raiser on the Miami Heat's calendar, fans, players, coaches and team management headed out to Miami Beach on Monday night for the second annual "South Beach Battioke" event to benefit The Battier Take Charge Foundation.
Host Shane Battier was dressed as Captain Stubing from The Love Boat, and welcomed the crowd with his Karaoke rendition of the title song from the popular show of the 1970s.
Also taking the stage were LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Pat Riley and others, including the no-doubt-about-it, best singer on the team, James Jones.
Shane and Heidi Battier established The Battier Take Charge Foundation in January 2010 to encourage and inspire leadership qualities in young people. The Battiers believe that furthering education for at-risk students is crucial in the attempt to encourage young leaders who may not otherwise have the means to attend college. The Foundation serves to award scholarships to at-risk students who have proven themselves to be deserving young leaders.
