Jockey Junior Alvarado has been treated at a hospital for abdominal pain after being thrown when his mount, Pete's Parley, broke his left foreleg and stumbled Monday near the eighth pole in the second race at Saratoga Race Course.
The horse was removed from the racetrack in an ambulance van and euthanized.
The 26-year-old Alvarado, a native of Venezuela, began the day as the fifth-leading rider at the meeting. Alvarado was later released from the hospital.
Pete's Parley was making his 20th career start. He was owned by Matties Racing LLC and trained by Greg Matties, who acquired the 5-year-old for $15,000 in a claiming race at Belmont Park in July.
