Jaguars unveil new unis with unique helmet
The Jacksonville Jaguars have set a tone for their 2013 season – two tones, that is.
For all of the speculation before Tuesday about what the team’s new uniforms would look like, the two-tone helmet design was the most ground-breaking element of the much-anticipated unveiling. In a scheme that is said to be the first of its kind in the NFL, the front of the helmet will be black before fading to gold in the back.
As for the uniforms, the biggest changes are a patch with a military-style insignia to be worn over the heart and the different fonts for the numbers and letters.
“It’s new. It’s edgy. It’s awe-inspiring for me,” said Jaguars owner Shad Khan, who was joined at the ceremony inside EverBank Field by Todd Van Horne, the global vice president and creative director for Nike football, and a group of players headed by linebacker Paul Posluszny.
Longtime fans who were worried that Khan might eliminate teal as a team color can breathe a sigh of relief. Not only will the black uniforms to be worn at home have accents of teal on the sleeves, but an alternate teal uniform with numbers trimmed in black and gold will be worn at one home game this season.
But the primary colors are decidedly black and gold. That goes for the patch, which features “JAGS” over the redesigned team logo and serves in part as a tribute to the current and retired military personnel in the Jacksonville area.
