BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) Hungary's swimming federation says it has reconfirmed coach Laszlo Kiss in his post after revelations that he was among three men convicted in a 1961 rape case.

The 75-year-old Kiss has been coaching the women's team since 1993, the men since 1999, and also trained five-time Olympic champion Krisztina Egerszegi.

The federation said Wednesday in a statement that Kiss's three-year prison sentence was well known within the sport when he began his career and that his achievements and acceptance of responsibility since then allowed for his crime to be forgotten.

Kiss received the backing of the federation's leadership as well as its coaching committee.

Kiss resigned in January amid disagreements between the federation and top swimmer Katinka Hosszu, but retook his position after a few days.
