Free coffee, cocoa to warm up Twins fans

MINNEAPOLIS — With temperatures expected in the low 30s for Friday night’s first pitch between Minnesota and the New York Mets, the Twins are offering something to warm things up at Target Field.
The team announced Friday afternoon that it will provide free coffee and hot chocolate to fans at Friday night’s game. The warm beverages will be available at all of Target Field’s five gate entrances.
There were questions as to whether Friday’s game would even be played, given that Minneapolis received more than 5 inches of snow on Thursday. That forced Target Field staff to work around the clock to clear snow from the seating bowl as well as the playing surface. By Friday afternoon, however, the field was green and the grounds crew was able to mow it in preparation for the game.
Twins president Dave St. Peter said Friday afternoon that Friday’s 7:10 p.m. game is expected to take place as scheduled. Because the Mets visit Minneapolis only once this season, the team is hoping to get in all three games this weekend — even though the forecast for the rest of the weekend isn’t much better.
There are plenty of food and drink options offered at Target Field, but it’s safe to bet that the complimentary coffee and hot chocolate will be the most popular on Friday for those willing to brave the cold.
