De Villiers propels SAfrica to 209-5 in WT20
MUMBAI, India (AP) AB de Villiers smashed 64 off 29 balls as South Africa looked to turn around its World Twenty20 campaign by scoring 209-5 in Group 1 match Sunday against Afghanistan.
De Villiers hit five sixes and four boundaries and was well-supplemented by left-handed opener Quinton de Kock (45) and captain Faf du Plessis (41), who won the toss and elected to bat.
De Villiers capitalized on two dropped catches and smashed 17-year-old Rashid Khan for four sixes and a four in the 17th over that cost the leg-spinner 29 runs before holing out in the deep in the next over.
South Africa lost the first match against England which chased down 230-8 at the same venue on Friday to win by two wickets. Afghanistan was beaten by defending champions Sri Lanka.
