Curlin's Fox wins Sandy Blue 'Cap at Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) Curlin's Fox won the $87,400 Sandy Blue Handicap for 3-year-old fillies by 4 1/2 lengths Friday at Del Mar.

Ridden by Hall of Famer Mike Smith, Curlin's Fox ran one mile on turf in a stakes record of 1:33.25, bettering the old mark of 1:33.94 set by Sarach in the 2013 edition of the race. She paid $6.20, $3.80 and $3.

Singing Kitty returned $7.80 and $3.40, while Havanna Belle was another head back in third and paid $3.60 to show. Spirit of Xian, the 7-5 favorite, was fourth.

The victory, worth $49,560, increased Curlin's Fox's career earnings to $157,690, with three wins in six starts for a daughter of Hall of Fame horse Curlin.
