FORT WORTH, Texas — Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage is always one who likes to listen to the fans.

NASCAR fans like bacon, and Gossage is listening.

The track's chef worked on a recipe for bacon-flavored cotton candy, and, after more than 25 attempts to perfect the recipe, he found one that was pleasing to Gossage. The dessert, which also includes bacon bits sprinkled on top of the cotton candy, will debut during the track's Sprint Cup Series weekend in April.

NASCAR media members who are on the media tour in Concord, NC, this week will get a sneak peek of the delicacy Tuesday when track representatives are there.

"I wanted them to come up with some item for our concessions that would really stand out, really be unusual," Gossage said. "I said something to the effect that 'They call bacon "meat candy." ' He (the track chef) took that literally and tried to come up with meat candy."

Gossage said some of the initial batches didn't meet his lofty bacon standards. But by the time they found the right recipe, Gossage was on board. He even gave his staff bacon-scented lip balm Monday morning to get them into the bacon spirit.

"I mean, honestly, who's going to turn down bacon given the opportunity," Gossage said. "It's pretty spectacular. It's one of those things you've got to try."
