
Arizona soccer falls to BYU in home opener

TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona women’s soccer team dropped its home opener on Thursday, suffering a 1-0 loss to Brigham Young Cougars at Mulcahy Stadium.
BYU (2-0) held on after taking an early lead in the third minute of the match on Jaiden Thornock’s goal.
For the Wildcats, juniors Jazmin Ponce and Ana-Maria Montoya both registered five total shots throughout the game. Goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman recorded four saves.
“We went away from how we want to play,” head coach Lisa Oyen said. “We need to stay disciplined as a group."
Arizona (0-2) is on the road on Sunday, Aug. 26, against Northern Arizona University. Game time is noon.
