Alvarez: No one has been offered Wisconsin job and can't until Dec. 17

Amid reports that Wisconsin has chosen Paul Chryst as its new head coach, athletic director Barry Alvarez has ground that talk to a halt -- or at least a temporary one -- issuing a statement that no job has been offered and can't until next week.

"We are continuing the process of finding our new head football coach," Alvarez said in the statement. "We have not offered the position to anyone. In accordance with University of Wisconsin hiring policies, the earliest we could make an offer to a candidate is Wednesday, Dec. 17. Any accepted offer would be contingent upon approval by the UW System Board of Regents."

Wisconsin is looking for a new coach after Gary Andersen surprisingly took the Oregon State job earlier in the week.

Chryst was also thought to be considered for the job when Andersen was hired, but he was just one year into his job at Pittsburgh and Alvarez had recommended Chryst for the job and didn't want to make a move for him so quickly.
