Switzerland beats Germany in team event at World Cup finals

ST. MORITZ, Switzerland (AP) Switzerland won the team event at the World Cup finals on Friday, edging Germany by 0.04 seconds.

With each team winning two slalom races in the final, Switzerland ended up on top when the overall times were added up.

Wendy Holdener had put the Swiss ahead when she beat Katrin Hirtl-Stanggassinger by 1.32 seconds. But Germany took a 2-1 lead after Daniel Yule and Michelle Gisin skied out against Stefan Luitz and Lena Duerr.

In the final race, Swiss skier Reto Schmidiger beat Dominik Stehle by 0.11 to force the tiebreaker.

In the semifinals, Switzerland beat Sweden while Germany defeated France - both on tiebreakers. Sweden beat France 3-1 for third place.
