Kjetil Jansrud of Norway had the fastest time in the first men's downhill training session at the world championships Tuesday.

Jansrud finished in 1 minute, 45.62 seconds to lead Max Franz of Austria by 0.08 seconds. Austrian Matthias Mayer, the Olympic downhill champion in Sochi, was third on the difficult course.

Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal used the training run as a chance to test out his surgically repaired left Achilles. He wasn't supposed to be healed in time for worlds. But a little over three months later, Svindal is planning to compete in the super-G on Wednesday.

Same with American Bode Miller, who's returning from back surgery he underwent in November. Miller took an easy run - meandering into softer snow at times - and finished 1.14 seconds behind Jansrud.
