Woodson: It was 'just Brett's night' in epic Packers-Raiders game

Charles Woodson was on the receiving end of Brett Favre's signature NFL moment. And the veteran safety said there was nothing he could do to slow No. 4 down.

One night after Favre's father passed away, the quarterback took the field in Oakland on Dec. 22, 2003 and torched Woodson's secondary.

“It was just one of those games where you’re going against a great player and, at a certain point in the game, you realize, ‘This is his night,’” Woodson told ESPN in advance of Favre's induction into the Packers' Hall of Fame. “He could do no wrong. He was throwing some passes up, hanging the up there to Javon Walker, and he'd have three guys on him and come down with them. It was like, ‘This is just Brett's night.’”

Favre threw for 399 yards and four touchdowns in the game. Woodson was astounded at his high level of play, and even more astounded at how uncharacteristically supportive "The Black Hole" was that night.

"People are compassionate, and they understood what had happened," he said. "Even myself, after the game, I just said a few quick words to Brett and then I walked off. It was tough. It was duly noted how close he was to his father. It was one of those times where everybody knew it was a special moment.”
