Texans add B.J. Daniels from Seattle practice squad
After losing quarterback T.J. Yates to a season-ending knee injury suffered in Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts, the Houston Texans added B.J. Daniels to the active roster off the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad on Monday.
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said the 5-foot-11, 217-pound Daniels offers versatility, having also worked as a kick returner and slot receiver for the Seahawks this season.
“He’s a guy that can do a lot of different things,” O’Brien said. “We’ve known about him for a long time from his days in college and when he was in Seattle. He can play quarterback. He can play wide receiver.”
A former seventh-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers, Daniels appeared in six games for Seattle this season, catching a pair of passes for 18 yards.
While Houston has a need a quarterback after losing Yates, O'Brien said the Texans intend to utilize Daniels as a wide receiver as well.
