T.J. Carrie ready for 'challenge' of increased Raiders role

No more rookie mistakes for T.J. Carrie.

The 219th overall pick in last year's draft played himself into a starting role this season. But he knows what the NFL stands for -- Not For Long -- and that comes with increased expectations.

“A lot of times within your rookie year, some of the stuff you do as far as mistakes, it gets shaded because you’re a rookie,” Carrie told CSN Bay Area. “Coming into your second year, you definitely have to have the knowledge and understanding that those were the things I made my rookie year, how much can I improve?"

An upgraded Carrie is a scary thought for AFC West quarterbacks. He notched 44 tackles with a pick and eight pass breakups in only four starts last season.

You can't blame the Raiders staff if they want to push Carrie. He's penciled in as a starter, plus he could be on return duty.

That means he's hitting the books hard, picking the brain of both Woodsons -- longtime veteran Charles and assistant secondary coach Rob. One is a Hall of Famer and the other one will be.

“I almost have a full book of notes that I just grasped from them two,” Carrie said. “Some of it came previously from Charles last year, but now having both Woodsons this year is great. You have a sense that every question you could imagine asking, they have the answer to it."

Carrie can be the answer to the Raiders' secondary issues if he proves to be a quick study.
