Steelers coaching triumvirate makes history
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin earned his 90th career win on Sunday, giving the franchise another illustrious accomplishment in its history.
The Steelers, who've had just three head coaches since 1969, are now the first franchise in NFL history to have three coaches with at least 90 wins. Tomlin's predecessors, Chuck Noll and Bill Cowher, had 193 and 149 victories, respectively.
Tomlin took over for Cowher in 2007 and led the Steelers to a Super Bowl win in his second season before falling to Green Bay two years later in Super Bowl XLV. Tomlin also became the ninth coach in NFL history to win 90 games in his first nine seasons, joining the likes of Mike Ditka, Joe Gibbs, John Madden, and Don Shula.
“We certainly have been fortunate to have three men like Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin. The fact that each of them had that kind of success is great to see, it’s something we strive for. Stability is something that provides a foundation for everything you do."
