Report: Landing Adrian Peterson too costly for Cardinals

Despite what head coach Bruce Arians says, the Arizona Cardinals do have some significant holes on their roster to fill.

One of the biggest ones is at running back. Arizona finished second to last in total rushing yards for the 2014 season and averaged a league-low 3.3 yards per carry.

It would be hard to find a better upgrade at the position than Adrian Peterson, but apparently that’s no longer an option.

According to a report by Charles Robinson at Yahoo Sports, the Cardinals have been priced out of the Peterson sweepstakes:

Peterson likes Arizona a great deal. All offseason, the Cardinals have been at the top of the heap of his preferred destinations. And if this could all be wrapped up for a second-round pick and a reworked contract, this deal would have been done over a month ago. But as of the beginning of draft week, that’s not working...”

Word on the street is the Vikings want a first-round pick and a starting cornerback in exchange for Peterson at the very least.

I don’t see any way the Cardinals would go that high, but as Robinson noted, anything can happen on draft day.
