Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount (hip) reportedly on crutches Tuesday

Published Dec. 15, 2015 11:34 a.m. ET

New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount left Sunday night's game against the Houston Texans with a hip injury and did not return. The injury appeared to occur on a routine run up the middle, but Blount was slow to get up before walking to the locker room under his own power.

On Tuesday, he was reportedly spotted on crutches just two days after suffering the hip injury. The report comes from Mike Reiss of ESPN.

Blount has been the Patriots' workhorse back ever since Dion Lewis tore his ACL and is just one of three running backs on the active roster. Brandon Bolden and James White are the other two, and saw increased roles after Blount went down.

Bolden is the more likely of the two to become the Patriots' main back with White working in passing situations. Both players have the ability to catch passes out of the backfield, but Bolden is the bigger back and can run between the tackles more effectively.

It's unclear how long Blount will be out, but the sight of crutches isn't a good sign for him or the Patriots.
