Jones, a veteran defensive end now in his ninth season in the NFL, will join the team after serving a two-game suspension for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.  The suspension came from a drunk driving arrest this past offseason.

The Miami Dolphins staff was made aware of the incident when it happened.  Jones released this statement at the time of his suspension:

“I want to reiterate my apology to my teammates, coaches and the Miami Dolphins organization,” Jones said in the team’s statement. “Fortunately no one was hurt because of my actions. This is something I learned from and have taken the proper steps to ensure this will never happen again.”

Signed on May 13th this year, Jones has appeared in 10 games in 2016, starting five.  He has 23 total tackles including 2.5 sacks.

Jones’ role moving forward is unclear; Cam Wake and Andre Branch have been playing great in his absence.  It’s likely he’ll move to a complimentary role, possibly replacing Wake in short yardage situations.
