Jaguars promote cornerback Thompson, waive King

Published Oct. 25, 2014 4:06 p.m. ET

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) The Jacksonville Jaguars have promoted first-year cornerback Peyton Thompson to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and waived receiver Tavarres King.

The Jaguars need Thompson for depth since starter Alan Ball (biceps) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Miami and fellow cornerback Dwayne Gratz is listed as questionable with a hip flexor injury.

If Gratz can't play, Jacksonville would start second-year players Demetrius McCray and Jeremy Harris. Both were seventh-round draft picks in 2013.

Thompson would back them up. He spent the first seven weeks of the season on Jacksonville's practice squad. An undrafted rookie in 2012, he has spent time with Atlanta, Washington and Chicago.
