Injury roundup: Ravens TE Pitta dislocates hip, more tests Monday

Published Sep. 21, 2014 1:21 p.m. ET

Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta went down with a non-contact injury against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Trainers immediately worked on his right leg.

Pitta, who dislocated his hip a season ago, was carted off with the injury, which was described as “ugly,” by The Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson.

Pitta was taken to a local hospital where he learned that he had dislocated his hip again, FOX Sports 1's NFL insider Mike Garafolo reports. There is fear it's a hip fracture as well which would make the surgery and recovery even more daunting. Pitta is scheduled for more tests tomorrow.

*Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce left Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins in the third quarter with an abdomen injury. Kelce is the third significant injury to the Eagles' offensive line. Starting right guard Evan Mathis was placed on the IR with designation to return in Week 1 with a sprained MCL. Starting right tackle Allen Barbre has been sidelined with a high ankle injury since that time, too. While the severity of Kelce's status is unknown, his absence is devastating to the offense. Kelce's unique blend of size and athleticsm allows him to pull on plays, which attack defensive's horizontally.

*Minnesota Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel exited Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints with a toe injury. The setback allowed rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to enter the game. The team announced the quarterback wouldn't return. Head coach Mike Zimmer said that Cassel has several fractured bones in his foot, per NFL Network's Albert Breer

The Vikings’ offense has stalled since Week 1’s win against the St. Louis Rams.

*The San Diego Chargers’ backfield took a hit for the second consecutive week. Running back Danny Woodhead was carted off with a right ankle injury during the Chargers’ first series Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

Woodhead likely to need surgery but expected to seek second opinion after getting hurt against Buffalo, source tells FOX Sports NFL Insider Alex Marvez.

The injury comes a week after running back Ryan Mathews sustained a sprained MCL, which landed him on the short-term injured reserve list.

*Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall told local reporters that he tore his Achilles in Sunday's game against the Eagles.

*Oakland Raiders wide receiver Rod Streater injured his foot in Sunday's game against the New England Patriots. Streater was seen in a boot, according to CSN's John Middlekauff.
