First live 3-D broadcast shown during Cowboys game

The Cowboys' mammoth video boards achieved another first - albeit briefly.

During Sunday's game between Dallas and the San Diego Chargers, the game was shown live in 3-D beginning at the start of the third quarter.

Approximately 85,000 3-D glasses were given to fans before the game. It appeared few were wearing the glasses on in the stands and there was applause when the in-game broadcast went back to 2-D with 8:10 left in the third, after each team had a series.

``We are excited about being the first,'' Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. ``The quality of our equipment, the quality of our cameras and the quality and size of the board all makes this possible for us to do.''

Fans were asked to put on 3-D glasses for what the Cowboys touted as the first live 3-D broadcast at the start of the third quarter.

``I've visited with the coaches and I expect them to have their glasses on down on the field,'' Jones said.

The gargantuan boards hang 90 feet over the field. The four-sided display is seven stories tall and stretches from one 20-yard line to the other.
