Duke Johnson: I fit the Cowboys' blocking scheme
It's not often that a draft prospect, who is not expected to be taken in the first five selections, pinpoints a specific team that he would like to play for. On Monday, Miami running back Duke Johnson did just that when he chose the Cowboys as that team. Unlike other prospects who mention their hometown or childhood rooting interests as a reason to prefer one team, Johnson's preference was based strictly on maximizing his talent on the field.
“In college, we ran the same outside zone scheme, so I’m kind of familiar with it,” Johnson said on an NFL Network television broadcast. “I can run it, basically, in my sleep. I ran it so much in high school and I also ran it a lot in college. I think that system fits me well.”
He is referring to the blocking scheme that the Cowboys utilized during the 2014 season and plan to run again in 2015.
If the Cowboys choose to bolster their defense on day one of the draft, Johnson makes for a very intriguing day two target.
