Cowboys: Team decided to remove name from stadium

Published Jul. 27, 2013 3:35 a.m. ET

Dallas Cowboys executive Stephen Jones says it was the franchise's decision to remove the team name from what is now known as AT&T Stadium.

The home field for Dallas was called Cowboys Stadium its first four years, but Jones said Friday the team felt comfortable that the $1.2 billion facility would still be known as the home of the Cowboys.

The team announced the naming rights deal with AT&T on Thursday.

Jones is the chief operating officer and executive vice president in charge of player personnel. He is the son of owner Jerry Jones.

Stephen Jones says the Cowboys ''came a long ways'' playing in Texas Stadium before moving to Cowboys Stadium in 2009.

He says ''in no way'' was AT&T pushing to remove ''Cowboys'' from the stadium name.
