The Buffalo Bills hosted the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday and were searching for their fourth straight victory. Were they able to close it out after a halftime lead?

A lot of people were ready to count the Buffalo Bills out after their rough 0-2 start, but Bills’ fans continued to show their pride. With the 49ers in town, the team was ready to pay tribute to their fans.

The first drive for each team was very shaky right out of the gate with a three-and-out by the 49ers and a lost fumble by Tyrod Taylor. After that, the game turned into a tennis match of back-and-forth scoring.

San Francisco struck first after starting their second drive of the game with excellent field position — following Tyrod’s fumble. Fortunately, the Bills’ defense was able to hold them to a 13-yard drive and forced the 49ers to settle for a field goal.

The Bills answered with a nice drive of their own and also started the dominant running by LeSean McCoy. The Bills drove the ball 75 yards on 11 plays and ended with a 4-yard TD run by McCoy. Tyrod Taylor had two nice throws on the drive — an 18-yard catch by Robert Woods and a 20-yard catch by Charles Clay.

The 49ers didn’t waste much time to respond after the Bills took a 7-3 lead after the first quarter of play. On the following drive, the 49ers started with three run plays before Kaepernick threw a bomb to Torrey Smith. The result was a 53-yard touchdown that gave San Francisco a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter.

Here’s a look at the highlight — from NFL’s official Twitter account:

Once again, the Buffalo Bills answered with a 75-yard drive — this time coming off 7 plays. 38 of those yards came off a McCoy rush, which set the ball up at the 33-yard line. After pounding the ball to the 12 yard line, McCoy finished the drive with a nice 12-yard rushing touchdown — his second of the day.

Here’s a look at that highlight, from NFL’s offficial Twitter account:

To close out the second quarter, each team had two long drives that ended in a field goal. The score going into halftime was 17-13 in favor of the Buffalo Bills.

The third quarter was rather boring, as the Bills punted on their first three drives and the 49ers punted on their first two drives. In those five drives to start the second half, both teams combined for just 33 yards on 20 plays. The game sat at 17-13 with just under 7 minutes left in the third quarter.

The Bills defense came up big on the following drive, stopping the 49ers on a 4th and 1. Kaepernick had scrambled for a 29-yard gain on the drive and they were at midfield, giving the Bills good field position at their own 40 yard line.

The Bills would answer well with a 12-yard rush by McCoy and a 23-yard catch by Nick O’Leary. The following play, our man Justin Hunter came up big with his second touchdown in as many games with the Buffalo Bills this season. A deep pass by Tyrod Taylor ended in a 30-yard TD catch by Justin Hunter, giving the Bills a 24-13 lead with 2:30 left in the third quarter.

Here’s a look at that highlight, from NFL’s official Twitter account:

The 49ers would start to move the ball on the following drive, starting up the back-and-forth action again. A 19-yard pass by Colin Kaepernick would have 15 yards added to it on a face mask penalty committed by Aaron Williams.

Fortunately once again, the Bills’ defense came up big as the 49ers creeped up near the red zone and limit them to another field goal — something the Bills’ defense has done all year long.

The Bills wouldn’t let their 8 point lead get to them, as they started to drive the ball once again in this one. A 14-yard catch by Charles Clay, a couple nice runs by LeSean McCoy and Mike Gillislee, a 21-yard run by Tyrod Taylor, with 11 minutes left in the game the Bills were once again in the red zone.

And once again, LeSean McCoy delivered in a big way with an 18-yard rushing TD to give the Bills a 31-16 lead in the fourth quarter.

Here’s a look at McCoy’s third touchdown of the game, from NFL’s official Twitter account:

Right away, the Bills weren’t done with their offense. On the pursuing kickoff, the 49ers fumbled the ball and it was forced by none other than last week’s AFC Defensive Player of the WeekNickell Robey-Coleman. The Bills got the ball back on the Niners’ 27 yard line.

After a pass interference call on the defense, Tyrod Taylor threw a 5-yard TD pass to Robert Woods — giving the Bills a quick 38-16 lead over San Francisco.

More Bills’ defense showed on the next 49ers’ offensive possession as they forced a three-and-out thanks in large part to a huge sack by Lorenzo Alexander. The Buffalo Bills were given the ball with 9 minutes remaining in the game.

This is when Tyrod Taylor and LeSean McCoy were replaced by Reggie Bush and E.J. Manuel, as we entered garbage time.

Mike Gillislee would add to the huge rushing day by the Bills with a 44-yard touchdown. The Bills’ lead jumped to 45-16 with just under 6 minutes left. This had become a complete blowout by the Buffalo Bills — who had 300 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns and 2 passing touchdowns on the day up to this point.

In garbage time, Jonathan Williams fumbled, the 49ers still couldn’t find the endzone and the Bills held on for a nice win over the 49ers.

Let’s move on to the stats.

The Buffalo Bills continued their dominance with their fourth straight victory. They turned out another good game both on offense and defense.

The Buffalo Bills aren’t holding anything back after their 0-2 start entering the season. They now sit at 4-2 and continue to prove why they belong in the playoff hunt.

LeSean McCoy is having an extremely powerful season and that continued vs. the 49ers’ defense on Sunday. Pair that with good rushing from Tyrod Taylor and some timely runs by Mike Gillislee, the Bills were able to control the game throughout all four quarters.

The passing game once again lacked a “wow” factor, but Justin Hunter is giving us hope for the future. With another touchdown grab, he now has two in his first two games with the Buffalo Bills. The team will plan on using him more and more as the season goes on, so don’t sleep on him.
