Bowens of Browns leads NFL interception party

Published Oct. 25, 2010 4:33 a.m. ET

One week it's big hits, the next it's big picks.

Nine interceptions were returned for touchdowns Sunday, the most since 2003, when 10 were run back for scores.

Linebacker David Bowens led the way with two in the Cleveland Browns' 30-17 win over the New Orleans Saints. Bowens interceptions led to Drew Brees tying a career high with four passes picked off.,

''You don't dream of games like that,'' Bowens said. ''You don't ever think anything is going to happen like that. It's unbelievable.''

Bowens' returns went for 30 and 64 yards, the second of which he punctuated by clumsily somersaulting into the end zone.

''I can't dance,'' Bowens said, explaining that his celebration was a reprise of Reggie Bush's end zone somersault in the NFC title game in January 2007. ''I can't do it as sweet as he does it. I'm a little heavier than he is and a little older.''

Not to be outdone was Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall, who returned one of his NFL-record tying four interceptions 92 yards for a score in Washington's 17-14 win over the Chicago Bears.

''It's kind of mind blowing,'' he said. ''I had my mom, my aunt, and my two cousins in the stands. The first ball went to my mom, the second ball went to my aunt and the next thing you knew everybody had a ball.''

The Bears' D.J. Moore joined in with a 54-yard pick of Donovan McNabb for a TD.

Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan capped Tennessee's 37-19 win over the Eagles by picking off Kevin Kolb's pass and bringing it back 41 yards for a TD on the game's final play.

Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson scooted 15 yards for a TD in the third quarter to spark Kansas City to a 42-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

''That's what the defense is supposed to do, make big plays,'' Johnson said.

Linemen got in on the fun, too, with 49ers defensive tackle Ray McDonald rumbling 31 yards with an interception return to give San Francisco a 20-13 lead in the fourth quarter before Carolina rallied for its first win of the season, 23-20.

Oakland cornerback Chris Johnson helped the Raiders to a big halftime lead over the Broncos with a 30-yard interception return.

Green Bay's Desmond Bishop returned an interception of Brett Favre 32 yards for a touchdown to give the Packers an 11-point lead in the third quarter of their 28-24 win over the Vikings.
