53 vying for FOX survivor pool top prize

Published Dec. 31, 2010 5:34 p.m. ET

Unlike in recent years, it only took five weeks into the 2010 NFL regular season for Mercury Morris to walk into his kitchen, open his refrigerator, snag a bottle of bubbly and pop champagne to celebrate his 1972 Dolphins remaining as the only team to ever have a perfect season.

Sixteen sweet and savory weeks have come and gone in FOXSports.com’s Survivor Football pool and Mr. Morris, you have some company.

As if we were constructing an active NFL roster, 53 entries remain perfect at 16-0 heading into Week 17 and a chance at $5,000. The 53 flawless entries remaining account for less than one percent of the 25,000-plus entries in the game.

The leaderboard was chopped dramatically following Week 16 as the top three picks were Philadelphia (thanks, Joe Webb), Jacksonville (thanks, David Garrard) and Dallas (thanks, Jay Feely).

If more than one entry finishes 17-0, the contest continues on through the playoffs. More important, once the playoffs begin all teams become available to select again.

Entering Week 17, the Falcons, Patriots and Steelers have been used up by all 53 entries. The Ravens, Colts or Chiefs are available for one team each. The least picked team across all 53 entries? The Lions and the Bengals, who have been used only once each.

Good luck to the remaining field of 53 as you try to wrap up the regular season undefeated and on your way to cashing in big-time. Five-thousand bucks and a bottle of champagne is not a bad way to kick off 2011. Right, Mercury?
