West punches Celtics teammate Wafer
Boston Celtics backup guards Delonte West and Von Wafer got into a scuffle after the NBA team's practice on Friday, coach Doc Rivers confirmed.
Rivers said the team would handle any discipline it deemed necessary internally.
"There was a fight, and that's all you need to know," Rivers said prior to the Celtics' game against New York.
"I'm going to leave it alone, but obviously I'm not thrilled that it happened. Let's talk about the Knicks."
Wafer declined to comment before the game, referring questions to Rivers and general manager Danny Ainge. West wasn't available for comment.
Celtics guard Ray Allen said he didn't expect the incident to have any lingering effects.
"I've seen a lot of fights. You'd be amazed," Allen said. "It doesn't change the dynamics of the team. Sometimes guys are just angry and have a bad day."
According to Hoopsworld, which first reported the incident, West repeatedly fouled Wafer during a three-on-three game involving the two players, prompting Wafer to go to the locker room midway through the game.
West reportedly threw the first punch after Wafer returned from the shower, and the two had to be separated.
West, who played for Cleveland last season, was suspended by the NBA for the first 10 games this season after pleading guilty in July to weapons charges in Maryland — where authorities said he carried a cache of weapons as he sped down a freeway on a motorbike.
Wafer is with his sixth team in six seasons.
