Vince Carter had an unconventional offseason workout schedule

It's a training camp tradition. Every year, players come into media day and start talking about how they're in the best shape of their lives or their careers or at least the best shape of the past five or six years.

They rededicated themselves. They changed some part of their workout regimen. They adjusted their diets. They gave up sugar or carbs or candy. There's always something.

So, here's Vince Carter's version, courtesy of Ari Alexander of WMC Action News 5 in Memphis:

It all seems pretty standard, right? Carter had a down year last year with Memphis, the worst one of his career, and he's clearly trying to improve on that. Here's where things get interesting, though.

That's pretty darn unconventional, even for an offseason workout story we hear about at media day. Carter will be 39 this season, almost twice the age of those kids in summer league. You never hear about vets with guaranteed contracts heading to summer league to play with the kids. They'll go to support them in the stands, but that's about it.

Carter took it a step further. Obviously, he wasn't getting into games, but getting consistent on-court work with summer leaguers couldn't have hurt him.
