Vince Carter goes home to reunite with his high-school, state-championship team

Vince Carter has always been great at basketball. Shocking, I know. And his teams have always won because of it. Even more shocking, right?

Let's get revolutionary with our statements, now: His high school team was amazing, in part, because it had Vince Carter. I know I'm blowing your mind right now.

Anyway, Carter traveled home to Daytona to reunite with his high-school squad, a team that won the Florida state championship in 1995. The Orlando Sentinel put together a great three-minute video on the reunion, which is worth a watch.

Here is some of the accompanying article:

"It just feels like old times," Carter said. "It's not forced. We all sit here and it's like we've been right here for 20 years. We've all gone our separate ways, but it's like business as usual. I feel like we can go on this court right now and compete. This is the bond that we built. You can't take this from us."

In his senior season, Carter averaged 21.8 points and 11.4 rebounds on the way to a state title. Former Orlando Predators player T.T. Toliver, now with the Tampa Bay Storm, was the team's point guard and averaged 12.4 points per game that season, tied for second on the team with current Port Orange Spruce Creek basketball coach Joe Giddens.

In addition to professional basketball and football players and a high-school coach, the group included a landscaper, a wireless engineer and a referee, among others. The mayor of Daytona Beach was there. Back then, he was just assistant coach Derrick Henry. A prayer was said for fallen teammate Tres Walton, who died of a heart attack when he was 35.
