Utah Jazz Notes: First-Ever 4K NBA Broadcast, Bembry to Hawks
Utah Jazz notes to tip-off your weekend; the team is part of the USA’s first-ever NBA broadcast in 4K and DeAndre’ Bembry is already back in Atlanta.
When the Utah Jazz hit the hardwood at Vivint Arena on Saturday night, it won’t be just another game. The Jazz band and their opponents, the Denver Nuggets, are set to make a bit of television history. Videophiles rejoice.
According to Richard Lawler of Engadget, the Jazz-Nuggets affair will mark the first time NBA Basketball has been broadcast in 4K Ultra HD in the United States.
The NBA previously became the first U.S. professional sports organization to capture a game in 4K in early 2015 in a game between the New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks. They went on to broadcast a game 4K in both Canada and the United Kingdom. However, Saturday’s game is apparently the first NBA broadcast widely available in the format in the U.S.
More NBA games are planned for 4K Ultra HD broadcast in the future.
I may be biased, but the league picked the perfect team to break in the new tech. Hopefully they can get a little more healthy and grab a win in their history-making bout with the Nuggets.

DeAndre’ Bembry Back to Hawks
Atlanta Hawks wing DeAndre’ Bembry made his mark in his debut with the Salt Lake City Stars this week. After being assigned to Utah’s D-League affiliate via the flexible assignment rule, Bembry scored 35 points on 16-of-22 shooting in a loss to the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
He also added six rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block for good measure.
Unfortunately, Stars fans may have seen the last of Bembry, at least for the time being. Hawks President/Head Coach Mike Budenholzer announced on Friday that Bembry had been recalled by his NBA club.
Bembry appeared in seven games for Atlanta this season before joining the Stars, mostly in mop-up duty. In just 35 total minutes, he’s averaging 1.3 points per game.
More from Purple and Blues
The Stars will be back in action on Saturday night when they travel to Texas to take on the Austin Spurs.
