Utah Jazz: Joel Bolomboy, DeAndre' Bembry Return to Stars in Style
Rookies Joel Bolomboy of the Utah Jazz and DeAndre’ Bembry of the Atlanta Hawks were back with the D-League’s Salt Lake City Stars in a big way on Sunday.
Just a few short days ago, I reported on Utah Jazz rookie Joel Bolomboy being reassigned to the Salt Lake City Stars. Although the Stars had a road game in South Dakota on Sunday, I opined that the big man would likely get a practice in, then quickly get recalled for Utah’s game against the Kings the night before.
Sure enough, Bolomboy was back with the Jazz on Saturday night. Nevertheless, the 22-year-old still managed to suit up for the Stars game on Sunday. To say that Bolomboy has moved briskly back and forth between the two clubs is an understatement —

However, he’s not the only player to get back with the Stars over the weekend.
Sunday also marked the Stars return of Atlanta Hawks wing DeAndre’ Bembry via the D-League’s flexible assignment rule. Just a few short weeks ago, Bembry casually strolled into Stars land and had the best offensive performance in the team’s short history. In a road bout with the L.A. D-Fenders, he scored 35 points on 16-of-22 shooting.
Against the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Sunday, Bolomboy and Bembry made their return in style.
In 34 minutes of play, Bolomboy scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting and 7-of-8 from the line. He also led Salt Lake City in rebounding at 12.
Bembry, meanwhile, scored 19 points, hitting two three-pointers, to go along with six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
More from Purple and Blues
Despite big games from Bolomboy and Bembry, the Stars ultimately failed to hit pay dirt once again. The Skyforce won the game 97-88 thanks to a big third quarter. With the loss, the Stars dropped to 2-10 on the season.
The Stars next game isn’t until December 16, meaning Bolomboy will probably be back with the Jazz for Wednesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Still, don’t be surprised if the big man is racking up more fuel points sooner rather than later.
