UPDATE: Bynum promotion canceled after center suspended by team

Published Dec. 28, 2013 12:58 p.m. ET

UPDATE: The Cavaliers canceled their Andrew Bynum Fathead promotion. Kids 14 and under at Sunday's game "will receive a handout ... with details on how to redeem it for a FREE Cavs Fathead Tradeable pack each week for the next five weeks at any Northeast Ohio Discount Drug Mart location."

Kids 14 and under also will receive a voucher for two tickets to a Cavs home game in January. Cavs can afford it, seeing how they're set to save $6 million if they cut Bynum in the next week.

Well this is a bizarre way for Andrew Bynum and the Cleveland Cavaliers to possibly end ties in 2013.

The Cavs have suspended Bynum indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team and he did not make the trip to Boston for Saturday's game.

To make matters worse, the Cavs have a promotion planned to give out Bynum Fatheads to all fans 14 and under for Sunday's game against the Golden State Warriors. Yeah, perfect timing. There's no word yet on if this promotion will go on, but if so, it will be awkward to say the least.

Things clearly aren't clicking between Bynum and the Cavs so it seems as if it wouldn't be a bad idea to part ways. According to FOX Sports Ohio, Bynum's $12 million deal pays him just $6 million if the team parts ways with him before Jan. 6.

Given his potential payout, Bynum might have wanted to wait a while before getting suspended.
