Tyronn Lue admits he should have called more plays for LeBron in Game 3
After suffering their first playoff loss this year Saturday against the Raptors, the Cleveland Cavaliers were looking for answers. And it looks like the changes revolve around LeBron James.
A day after the surprising setback, head coach Tyronn Lue second-guessed not getting LeBron more involved in 3.
"I think I should have called more plays to make him dominant," Lue told reporters Sunday.
LeBron, finished with a team-high 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field, agreed that his number should have been called more Saturday.
"Well, it's always a fine line for sure," James said Sunday. "Obviously the ball -- as far as me initiating offense, it's not as -- I don't handle it as much. With Kyrie (Irving) kind of setting the offense and then (Matthew Dellavedova) coming in, the ball has kind of been taken out of my hands a little bit, so I'm okay with that.
"But there is a point in time where you say, okay, some of the guys are not going, maybe let me see if I can get it going. But last night just didn't happen that way, and we'll have a better game plan going into Game 4."
Irving and Kevin Love struggled throughout Game 3, combining to go 4 of 28 from the field for 16 points. The duo has been strong up until Saturday, removing some of the pressure off LeBron's shoulders during the Cavs' playoff run.
"I think we continued to run plays that had been effective and working throughout the course of this series, knowing that Kyrie and Kevin could get going at any time, and I should have put the ball in LeBron's hands a little bit more to let him create and let him draw double teams," Lue said. "So that was more on me."
