Trevor Ariza thinks Houston is on the right track
Adding Trevor Ariza after losing Chandler Parsons was a move of mild genius by Daryl Morey last season. From the opener to Game 5 of the Western Conference finals, the small forward was the Houston Rockets' most consistent and best all-around defender.
His three-point shot came and went, but Ariza brought it every night and helped the Rockets embrace defense as their winning ticket. He also thinks the future is bright. Here's what he recently told the Houston Chronicle's Jenny Dial Creech:
“Not every team comes together and wins straight away. When you do have that and you do find something that works, you want to continue. You want to build on that. Hopefully for us, we’ll be one of those teams that builds on what we accomplished.”
The Rockets were a pretty good defense last season, but what they did this year was special, especially considering Dwight Howard didn't play in half the games. But Houston also caught a lucky break.
Injuries across the Western Conference helped them get as far as they did, and adding another star is potentially what's necessary to get them over the top. Ariza isn't wrong to like what he sees, but Houston needs more help
