Damian Lillard made waves last week declaring that he wants to win in Portland – rather than joining a super team. Although no names were mentioned, it was clear he was referring to Kevin Durant’s decision to join up with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

It’s unclear how much the star players will play in this game; both teams have important opening night match-ups on Tuesday: The Trail Blazers take on the Utah Jazz, while the Warriors host the San Antonio Spurs. Both match-ups are semi-rivalries at this point. The Blazers-Jazz are fighting for the Northwest Division and could be considered dark horse contenders. The Warriors-Spurs are clearly the top two teams in the Western Conference. They won a combined 140 regular season games last year.

For the Trail Blazers, it’s likely that backups will receive plenty of playing time. There are three players fighting for one final roster spot: Tim Quarterman, Greg Stiemsma, and Grant Jerrett. If General Manager Neil Olshey and Head Coach Terry Stotts haven’t made up their mind already – tonight’s performance could go a long way for the three roster hopefuls.
