Trail Blazers exercise three important team options

Published Oct. 1, 2015 1:27 p.m. ET

On Wednesday, the Portland Trail Blazers picked up fourth-year team options on C.J. McCollum and Mason Plumlee's contracts, and a third-year team option for Noah Vonleh.

This is standard operating procedure; these moves were expected. Rookie-scale contracts are the most valuable non-max deals in the league. Unless you're godawful and don't appear ready or willing to ever get better, a team will almost always pick up the rookie-scale team option.

All three guys here are central figures in Portland's rebuild, as on-court contributors or tradable assets down the line.

This season, McCollum and Plumlee will likely start at shooting guard and center, while Vonleh will attempt to insert himself into Terry Stotts' rotation. That won't be easy, though, as Ed Davis and Al-Farouq Aminu both battle for minutes behind Meyers Leonard.
