Toronto Raptors: Is Jared Sullinger The Answer At Power Forward?
The Toronto Raptors have long searched for a consistent starting power forward; is Jared Sullinger the answer to the team’s dilemma?
The Toronto Raptors are set at point guard, shooting guard, small forward and center. On paper, in just those four positions, you can make the argument that this is one of the NBA’s most talented teams.
However, the drop-off at power forward has been devastating for the Raptors over the last few years. It’s been a liability that has cost them in the playoffs.
Now, though, it appears that the Raptors have their answer. At the very least, a new project. According to Doug Smith of the Toronto Star, the power forward position is Jared Sullinger’s “to lose”.

“I would say Sullinger is the guy now that it would be his to lose, but I reserve the right to change my mind,” Casey said, citing the need to see how that group reacts defensively.
And that’s the way it should be. If nothing else, Sullinger should get the first crack at winning the power forward position for the Raptors. He started 73 games last season with the Celtics and was pretty productive.
He averaged 10 points and eight rebounds on 44 percent shooting from the field. Perhaps playing in a similar role for the Raptors – because he won’t have to do THAT much on the offensive end next to Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan – Sullinger should be able to find a nice niche as the team’s starting four.
The biggest question is, of course, is going to be his defense and what type of shape he’s in when the season starts.
That’s always been the issue with Sullinger. I don’t think anyone would say he doesn’t have the talent; he does. His drive, however, has been.
Though, after only signing a one-year contract this summer in Toronto, Sullinger has incentive to have a big season with the Raptors, perhaps culminating in a huge pay day next summer. This could be a perfect match, even if it just is for one season.
