Timberwolves Prediction: Winning It All This Season (Part 2)

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

We’re all Timberwolves fans here (right?); we might as well enjoy an unlikely championship run prediction and that might look like…

This is the second part in an extremely optimistic series on how the Timberwolves will win it all this season. In Part One, we predicted the Timberwolves earning the #3 seed in the Western Conference and beating the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs.

Western Conference Semifinals vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

The Thunder should have a solid team this season. Russell Westbrook will be looking to prove something. Steven Adams will be emerging as a top center in the league. Victor Oladipo will gel with the Thunder personnel.

Karl Anthony-Towns will erupt in this series, however, taking advantage of Adams and Ersan Ilyasova in the post. The Timberwolves win both games in Minnesota to start the series before going to Oklahoma City.

But going on the road is a different story. Russell Westbrook has back-to-back triple-doubles leading the Thunder to tie the series at 2-2. The Thunder also take Ilyasova out of the starting spot, replaced with Enes Kanter to slow down Towns.

Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine gain control in Game Five, taking advantage of the Thunder’s weak bench. This carries onto Game Six where Wiggins scores 35 points en route to beat the Thunder in Oklahoma City.

More from Dunking with Wolves

At the same time, the Warriors beat the Clippers, the Cavs run over the Celtics, and the Bucks top the Knicks.

Western Conference Finals vs. Golden State Warriors

As stated in the first part of this series, the Wolves were able to beat the Warriors early in the regular season. Of course, many folks previously thought that the Warriors would easily win this match-up.

The series kicks off with a home win for the Warriors in which the Timberwolves get blown out. The Wolves bounce back for Game Two, however, led by Towns and Gorgui Dieng who combine to demolish the Warriors in the paint.

After traveling back to Minnesota, the Wolves take care of business at home. The Wolves shut down the Warriors’ offense, as Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are held to under 20 points apiece in Game Three.

The Timberwolves head back to Oakland with a 3-1 lead on the Warriors. The Warriors play too quick for the Wolves, however, and exhaust Minnesota’s big men. Steph Curry has 32 points and 12 assists in Game Five.

To the detriment of the Warriors, Draymond Green commits a flagrant-two foul in Game Five, forcing him to sit out for Game Six. The Wolves rally due to this turn of events and defeat the Warriors to head to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history.

In the East, the Bucks play the Cavs while Matthew Dellavedova and Michael Beasley lead the Bucks past Cleveland. This starts the talk that LeBron James cannot make the finals in Cleveland without Delly or Mike Brown, and LeBron considers NFL career.

Stay tuned to for Part Three, including what happens in the Finals…
