Thunder, Bucks rest starters in final game

Published Apr. 17, 2013 8:29 p.m. ET

Oklahoma City All-Star Kevin Durant won't be making a bid to overtake Carmelo Anthony for the NBA scoring title, and instead is sitting out the Thunder's regular-season finale Wednesday night against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Durant would have needed 70 points to surpass Anthony and win his fourth straight scoring crown. He had played in all 81 of Oklahoma City's games previously this season. The Thunder have clinched the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

Coach Scott Brooks also plans to use All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook sparingly, for perhaps 7 or 8 minutes. The only reasons he's playing are to extend the NBA's longest active consecutive games streak to 394 and give the team a jump start.

Milwaukee is holding out starters Ersan Ilyasova (wrist) and Larry Sanders (back).
