'That is laughable:' Popovich frowns at petition to rename high school after him

Published Nov. 19, 2015 11:45 a.m. ET

An online petition that wants to rename a local San Antonio high school after Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich does not have the support of the man it's trying to honor.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, Popovich wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea when a group of reporters informed him of its existence:

“You got to be kidding,” Popovich said when told of the petition. “Are you serious? I would hope that you would use all your muscle or whatever you have to squash that ridiculous idea as soon as humanly possible. Can you please do that for me? Squash that ridiculous idea right now. That is laughable.”

He's being modest. Of course, the school should rename itself after the greatest basketball coach of his generation!

Any and all counter-arguments can't be taken seriously.
