Spurs sign Jeffers to 10-day contract

ATLANTA (AP) The San Antonio Spurs have signed guard Othyus Jeffers to a 10-day contract.

Jeffers is with the team for Friday night's game at the Atlanta Hawks. Coach Gregg Popovich says Jeffers, who has a reputation as a strong defensive player, is available but isn't expected to play.

Jeffers averaged 22.8 points and 11.4 rebounds in 22 games with the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League this season. He ranked second in the league with 2.5 steals per game.

Jeffers has played in 31 NBA games in his career, including one game with the Spurs in the 2010-11 season. He also has played with Utah (2009-10) and Washington (2010-11).
