San Antonio Spurs guard Danny Green: 'We're good on paper right now'

After acquiring LaMarcus Aldridge and David West, then retaining Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, in the eyes of many the San Antonio Spurs are the paper favorites to win the Western Conference.

But Green isn't a true believer just yet (at least not in public). Here's what he said while in Manila promoting 2015 NBA 3X Philippines events:

"I think it still belongs to Golden State. They're still the reigning champs. We're not the top anything yet. We haven't won anything yet. We're good on paper right now."

Green is right not to anoint his team as the favorites when Golden State just won the title and is basically rolling the same roster into next season—which is exactly what the Spurs did last year after winning the title in 2014.

The top of the Western Conference is a minefield that includes San Antonio and Golden State, right beside the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder and, if we're being generous, Memphis Grizzlies.

All those teams have realistic championship expectations. Only one can break through into the NBA Finals; no matter what Green says, the Spurs should be right there until the very end.
