Report: Nets to sign Andrea Bargnani to two-year deal
Well, this is interesting:
Bargnani averaged 14.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game with the Knicks last year, though he was held to just 27 games because of injuries, a common theme throughout his career. Now, he stays in New York on what will reportedly be a two-year minimum contract with a player option in year two (h/t Tim Bontemps of the New York Post).
He may have been maligned by Knicks fans, but there's no risk in handing out a minimum deal. More notably, the signing gives Brooklyn 18 players under contract, which means there are going to be some cuts coming in the future. Earl Clark, Willie Reed, Markel Brown, Cory Jefferson and Ryan Boatright all have partial or non-guarantees for next season, so look for three of them to be cut by training camp. Considering Brown and Jefferson are young, up-and-comers who the Nets drafted int he second round during 2014, it seems likely they are the two most likely to stay with Reed, Clark and Boatright heading out of Brooklyn.
