Report: Mavs interested in Bynum

Published Jul. 6, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The Dallas Mavericks failed to land Dwight Howard in free agency and now reportedly are targeting free agent center Andrew Bynum.

Interestingly, Bynum was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Philadelphia 76ers in the four-team swap that also sent Howard from the Orlando Magic to the Lakers last offseason.

The Mavericks’ interest in Bynum is legitimate, though they will make a detailed and careful evaluation because of his health, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Bynum, 25, missed the entire 2012-13 season because of ongoing knee problems that have plagued him in recent seasons. In March, he had arthroscopic surgery on both knees.

The 10th overall pick by the Lakers in 2005, Bynum has averaged 11.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game during his seven NBA seasons.
